Spurs' Cult Heroes - Fans' Memories

Spurs’ Cult Heroes – Your Memories of Chris Waddle…

Not necessarily a unanimous choice, but with skills as outrageous as his mullet AANP warmly invites you to submit your memories of Chris Waddle, one of those featuring in Spurs’ Cult Heroes. This forthcoming book will look at players who achieved legendary status amongst supporters for what they did at the club, and includes reminiscences from former players, managers and you the fans. (Particularly keen to hear any memories of the time he destroyed Arsenal’s Gus Caesar in a Littlewoods Cup game in 1987).

As ever, all are most welcome to leave memories – and browse those of others – regarding some of the other featured players: Cliff Jones here, Glenn Hoddle here, Ossie and Ricky here, Gary Mabbutt here, Graham Roberts here, Jimmy Greaves here, Clive Allen here, Jurgen Klinsmann here

oh my goodness the classic goal against southampton on a almost unplayable pitch , spot of genius first touch and it sailed into the net form it was almost the halfway line!!!
legend

I remember standing on the east stand terraces back in 86/87, chucking it down with rain for a televised game on Sunday afternoon against the all conquering Liverpool.
Waddle picked up the ball on the right hand side, cut inside the defender dummied a backheel pass and hit a low shot, skidding off the turf and into the bottom corner past a diving Grobelaar.
Ledge!

I was at The Dell for the Southampton game too (my first professional league match). Terrible weather. The pitch was a mud bath. The Spurs away support was amazing though – a fantastic atmosphere. Chris was at his peak at the time and the media were all over him. It was one of those times were it seemed like people were going to watch Chris as much as to see Spurs!!! His goal was inspired – the fans all bundled forward (it was all standing in the away end). Never been so happy and so cold and wet at the same time. Nayim’s free kick wasn’t bad either. Only down side was Chris’ refusal to stop and sign any autographs when the team got off the coach before the game. I’d taken his biography especially. David Howells, who got off behind Chris, grabbed it and signed it though. Joy!
